Cradled between the imposing fells and
mountains which surround Derwentwater, 'Queen of the English
Lakes’ the historic
market town of Keswick makes an ideal starting point for your
Lakeland experience. Keswick has a huge range of activities and
events to suit any visitor to the area.
There
are many activities straight from the front door - a 15 minute
stroll down the once used Keswick railway line will take you
to the beautifully restored centre with a good variety of local
pubs, restaurants and shops catering for all your outdoor needs.
For those wishing to escape the hustle and
bustle of town, a wide selection of enjoyable walks are easily
accessible. The
challenging Skiddaw and Helvellyn range, to the picturesque Catbells
and Latrigg are all on the doorstep. Why not take a quick look
at our ‘walks’ or ‘links’ pages for inspiration
on what to do no matter what the weather is doing as there is
a host of activities to make your Lakeland stay a rewarding and
enjoyable time.
For anyone interested in photography or ancient
monuments, Castlerigg Stone Circle is well worth the 10 minute
stroll up the hill.
Or, why not try something different, the former railway line
now forms part of the ‘coast to coast’ cycle network
where a stopover in Keswick is not only desirable but essential
and within sight of ‘Hazelwood’.
If you are looking for a more relaxed and easy going pace, then
why not enjoy a scenic tour around Derwentwater on one of the launches,
which can be picked up from several landing stages. Or, visit
the famous Pencil
Museum or any of the other attractions in town |
